The study of nuclear fusion and fission is fascinating. I’m a layman of physics and the only “knowledge” I have on the subject is through articles I’ve read. But it has definitely captured my interest.

I first became familiar with this mission to harness nuclear fusion when I was welding out at one of the rocket launch sites in Cape Canaveral. I spoke with an engineer who mentioned they were exploring the idea of mining the moon for Helium-3; an isotope that they believed would be an effective “fuel” in a nuclear fusion reactor.

Who knows, maybe they’ll need welders up on the moon someday to keep their mining equipment operational? That’d be quite the work trip.
