Interesting approach to the subject of morality—I just finished writing a spontaneous essay on morality and the human relationship to good and bad that shares as similar theme/“get-it”—
I think comfortability also has a lot to do with what you mentioned about identity; people inherently want to be safe and comfortable. Identities that challenge their own introduce uncomfortable ideas and questions into the borders they’ve built around their lives.
The common reaction is to view those challenges as an “invasion” of one’s borders, rather than to view them as ideas to entertain and explore and use to expand, or even deconstruct, one’s borders.
