an opened can of garbanzo beans,
spinach, and sweet corn…
Ahh — with decaf coffee!
(one must not cut corners
when being contrary)

Only a handful of addicts
staggering home from
Sunday-night bars,
graveyard shifters,
and those dressed
to do violence
are up with me…
to borrow Jagger’s words:
Oh, what blessed company!

And somewhere in their own
slice of time and space,
5 millennia removed from my own,
Egyptian prayers are ringing out
as Khepri rises to Ra.
